FUTURE OF ARTISANS
It’s my pleasure to invite you to an evening event titled the FUTURE OF ARTISANS on January 24, 2019 5:30 pm to 9 pm.
This is a small gathering of invited experts and stakeholders working with artisans around the globe. The evening will start with short remarks delivered by three experts in the field and followed by small break-out sessions led by the invited audience of thought leaders. We invite you to participate in the discussion, share your expertise and knowledge.
The evening’s multi-pronged conversation and break-out discussions will focus on globalization, urbanization and new technologies influencing the sustainability of craft in an era of fast fashion. A wide range of perspectives will be represented including retailers, artisans and non-governmental organizations.
Some themes of break out discussion will include:
- Defining the term “artisan” and its connotations
- Human Rights issues in the artisan supply chain
- The role of artisans in community engagement and cultural preservation
- New technologies influencing artisan work and market access
During the evening, we hope to explore this changing landscape, spark conversations and new ideas that can lead to collaboration in preserving artisan craft, while building pathways to a viable future for artisans.
